Dear Families,
Recently the school has embarked on a recycling/fundraising campaign. Your child may have brought home a packet that has a listing of all the items you can send in to school with your child to recycle. These items will be sent into a company that will give the school money for recycling our "garbage". There are many every day items to recycle on the list, juice pouches, bear naked granola packages, Malt O'Meal cereal packages, Kashi packages and wrappers, old cell phones, ink jet and toner cartridges. The more we bring in the more money we can raise for the school.
The children enjoyed a special lesson on recycling and learned about the program this week in school. Then they had the opportunity to recycle some items into art. Some of the students had fun making fossils from used coffee grounds, while others used recycled snack bags to watch bean seeds germinate before they plant them in recycled yogurt cups. A couple of other classes made picture frames from recycled popsicle sticks and decorated them with recycled buttons, beads, etc. Another class recycled their milk cartons from lunch and decoupaged them to use as pencil holders. The children had a great time learning about the environment and recycling. They are now really excited to play their part in being green and raising green for the school.
The more cell phones and toner cartridges we recycle, the more points we can earn towards free pizza too! Something we can use on the KIDS NIGHT OUT events.
In the next week we will be setting up collection bins outside the Main Office. So feel free to send your child to school with your garbage (only your trash that is on the list, please), starting next week (11/9).
If you have any questions at all or if you would like to help out with this project please feel free to email Donna LaStella at: donna528@optonline.net
On a final note, the children are helping to collect used water bottles (evian, poland springs, etc.) for the NJ Museum art project. There is a collection box already set up in the hallway outside the main office. The museum needs to collect 3,000 bottles. So please help the children assist the museum in reaching their goal.
Thanks so much.
